Skim Milk

Studies show that calcium isn’t just a bone builder—it’s a fat fighter, too. Recent US research found that obese people who went on a low-kilojoule, calcium-rich diet lost 70 per cent more weight than those who ate the least calcium did. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, and it’s a supernutrient in its own right. Recent research shows that adequate D levels can reduce heart-disease risk, ward off certain cancers, relieve back pain and even help prevent depression. Still, most of us don’t get nearly enough of the daily 1,000+ IU dose of D that experts recommend.

A splash of milk in your morning coffee isn’t enough; use milk instead of water to make porridge, sip a glass with breakfast or stir in some chocolate topping for an occasional after-dinner treat.
